We live in a culture that often celebrates busyness. Being "on" all the time is worn like a badge of honour — but for many people, that relentless pace quietly erodes their mental and physical wellbeing. The result? Burnout.
Burnout is more than just feeling tired. It's a state of deep exhaustion — emotional, mental, and physical — caused by prolonged stress that hasn't been adequately managed. And it's far more common than most people realise.
What Exactly Is Burnout?
The World Health Organization officially recognises burnout as an occupational phenomenon characterised by three dimensions: exhaustion (a persistent feeling of being drained, even after rest), cynicism or detachment (growing emotionally distant from your work, relationships, or responsibilities), and reduced efficacy (feeling like nothing you do makes a difference, or that you're no longer capable).
